Christmas Creations

During the colder darker months of Winter, I often struggle with motivation and focus. Getting home from work in the dark and trying to find the means to be creative is very difficult. I do however really love seeing the frosty trees and glittery snow, especially on sunny winter days. Christmas for me was a bit of a lazy one, I did paint a few figures, below are a few I managed to finish over December.

As you can see, I made good use of the little Dragon and Pony models!

Candy Cane

Ths was originally going to painted in a sugar plum fairy theme, but after I laid the initial pink base I had the idea of adding candy cane swirtls to her horns and she naturally went from there! I did plan to create a soft green peppermint but I got Christmas burn out, maybe at some point I’ll pick this idea back up and try some different versions for next year. Her cute little candy cane I made from polymer clay using a tutorial on YouTube on how to create candy canes from polymer clay, I didn’t photograph any steps as I was too focused on the task but there are plenty of tutorials to find online.

Frosty

Leaning into my love of snow and sparkling frost, I painted two tiny figures in white and blue tones, brushed with pearlescent effect paints and dustings of glitter. I’m going to try and re-visit this theme over the Winter, perhaps next time with some ice and snow bases.

Gingerbread

Using my favourite Pony and Dragon figures again! First creating small versions, then larger versions. I used polymer clay for the sprinkles and cute different sized cookie cutters for the gingerbread men.

Gingerbread Cookie

My final dragon was actually my first idea, I love his little eyes and the bauble on his tail; to make the bauble I drilled through a round bead with an electric hand drill and added a smaller gold bead on top, screwing the eye fastening through them both and gluing them down. Next time I try this I’d like the dragon in more of a festive green colour and the cookie to be cut to fit his little bite better.

Reindeer Jackalope

The horns of the Jackalope leant really nicely to a reindeer theme, the little red nose is made from clear UV clay, coloured with chalk pastels for an opaque effect.

Christmas Bulbasur and Charmander

These two were my last Christmas themed creations, using the same idea for the Jackalope, Bulbasaur has a little Rudolph nose which I love. For Charmander, using red and green together was tricky due to the opacity of the red, meaning it required lots of thin layers and wouldn’t cover over the green, which meant I had to be careful when applying the patterns. This is a common issue with some shades of model paints and I’ve yet to find a red or yellow paint that doesn’t do it. To try and overcome this issue, I used white base paint to plan out the red areas after painting the green and layering the red onto it.

Polymer clay Christmas collection I made, ready for next year?

I had so many ideas and figures I wanted to create, including a reindeer with baubles and decor on her antlers and a snowpikachu. Perhaps next year if I manage my time better and I can create them and have some projects I can sell as decorations!
